The Well-Balanced Entrepreneur: A Self-Care Guide for Women

By

Katherine Suarez

When founding Nomad Atelier, I had a vision of seamlessly prioritizing self-care, believing it would be easier than during my corporate days. While some things did shift, such as managing my own time, there were also more responsibilities on my plate. Over the years, I’ve always aimed to get better at this, understanding that becoming a master of self-care is a journey that never really ends.

As women entrepreneurs, we gracefully balance numerous roles, navigating a labyrinth of responsibilities. As a mentor, while I hold space for others, I’ve come to realize the importance of equally creating that space for myself and establishing clear boundaries.

Balancing these demands can feel like an intricate dance, especially for someone like me, a Manifesting Generator in the human design system. I’m inherently designed to respond to life and follow what resonates with me. However, my curious nature often leads me to explore a multitude of interests, sometimes causing self-care to take a backseat when the demands of my business become all-encompassing.

Despite these challenges, my deep affinity for rituals gently guides me back to the path of self-nurturing. Rituals have become my sanctuary, grounding me in the present moment and nurturing my overall well-being.

Perhaps this affinity for rituals comes from my fascination with ceremonial practices and ancestral traditions. For me, rituals are moments we create for ourselves, infused with unique meaning that only we can give them.

The desire and need to cultivate self-care led me to a beautiful realization: why not collaborate with remarkable women in the wellness sphere, individuals I’ve come to know through Nomad Atelier? This realization birthed the first edition of the “Nomad Sanctuary Guide,” a project curated with boundless love, uniting practices and rituals from women across the globe.

Here’s a glimpse of what you will find when you signup for our free guide.

Within the ‘Nomad Sanctuary Guide,’ you’ll discover inspiration to infuse everyday activities with profound meaning. Explore a variety of techniques and practices designed to engage your senses, guiding you to a realm of tranquility and contemplation.

I feel incredibly honored to be able to share the wisdom of so many beautiful brands and experts here. And to have collaborated so closely with a special partner Tanita Schneider, in designing this guide and adding an extra layer of soul. Together, we’ve woven a tapestry of inspiration designed to elevate your self-care journey.

Whether you’re savoring a cup of herbal tea, immersing yourself in mindfulness exercises, or simply embracing the soothing world of wellness, this guide extends an invitation to a sanctuary of self-care.

If you’re curious about additional rituals that can help prevent burnout in your entrepreneurial journey, here are some tips:

1. ANCHOR YOUR DAY
Prioritize daily rituals that bring you joy and tranquility, especially within your personal time. Whether it’s morning meditation, expressive journaling, or the comfort of a warm cup of tea, these rituals anchor your day.

2. CREATE BOUNDARIES
Define clear boundaries between your work and personal life, including when to say no, especially during your personal time. It’s essential to listen to your body and recognize when you need time for yourself.

3. LET OTHERS HELP YOU
Delegate and Seek Support: Recognize that you don’t have to navigate this journey alone. It’s perfectly acceptable and okay to delegate tasks to others who are well-equipped to handle them even if they don’t do it like you. Reach out to your support network, be it friends, family, or professional help when needed. Start delegating little by little, in a way you can feel more comfortable each time so you can learn to trust and to receive from others.

4. TAKE BREAKS
Engage in mindfulness exercises to remain rooted in the present moment. Mindful breathing and brief breaks throughout the day can rejuvenate your mind and alleviate stress.

5. KNOW WHAT INSPIRES YOU
For some, finding inspiration could mean visiting art exhibitions, while others may prefer spending time by the sea, hiking in the mountains, or exploring new destinations. We each possess a unique energetic design and distinct interests. It’s crucial to tune in to your body and recognize what nourishes it, whether it’s solitude, engaging in self-care rituals, or connecting with new people. It’s often the small, everyday actions that can shift your mood, but they can also drain your energy. Learning how to recharge and reconnect with yourself is essential, especially during those times when you need it the most.

6. GO ON AN ARTIST’S DATE
Allocate time for your hobbies and passions outside of work. These activities nurture your spirit and contribute to balance. Not just around what you like but also around what can open your mind and awaken your creativity. I love Julia Cameron’s advice in The Artist’s Way.

7. SEEK INSPIRATION
Surround yourself with sources of inspiration, whether it’s connecting with people you admire, those who uplift you, immersing yourself in inspiring literature, or exploring new experiences that rekindle your creativity and motivation. For instance, I once enrolled in a sculpture class led by a blind teacher at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice. It was a transformative experience that allowed me to perceive and create art in a completely different way under his guidance.

We invite you to see what resonates most deeply with you, hoping you can find simplicity and bring the art of intent in any moment needed.
